Conflicting reports are emerging over the future of Andrei Arshavin, with Zenit St Petersburg insisting that a move has broken down while Arsenal claim the Russia forward will join.
The 27-year-old Russia playmaker was in London hoping to sign a contract but Zenit said the deal collapsed at the last moment when the clubs could not reach agreement before the 17:00 transfer window deadline.
"I can confirm that the deal is definitely off," Zenit spokesman Alexei Petrov told Reuters.
But Arsenal are expected to claim his signature later in the evening.
"We will make an announcement tonight," Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was quoted as saying by SkySports News.
"It will be a positive announcement, it will go through. I cannot say why there has been a delay."
